Only the top half an inch on this small vase was glazed with my dark blue cobalt glaze, it ran all the way to the bottom of the piece, demonstrating how fluid these glazes are. The dark blue is a great contract to the bright yellow gold glaze.
The glaze is essentially a supersaturated zinc silicate. The glaze matures around 2250 degrees and is cooled quickly to around 1800 degrees and held at that temperature for up to four hours to allow for the crystal to form.
Due to the nature of this process each piece is truly one of a kind and represents the ancient combination of art and alchemy.
