This gourd vase form is one of the most difficult to throw and is inspired by my many visits to the Asian ceramics collection at the Met in New York. I love the contrast of the three glazes and the way the sark blue works to narrow the middle section of the form.
The glaze is essentially a supersaturated zinc silicate. The glaze matures around 2250 degrees and is cooled quickly to around 1800 degrees and held at that temperature for up to four hours to allow for the crystal to form.
Due to the nature of this process each piece is truly one of a kind and represents the ancient combination of art and alchemy.
I recommend that all hand-made pottery is hand-washed. It is food and microwave safe. If you have any questions about this piece or any others, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
